Trenching

Trenching & Excavation Services

Trenching units vary in size and utilize a boom on the back that has cutting blades designed for specific soil or rock conditions. The trench travels along churning up the earth and creating a trench. Depending on what is being buried the trencher will create an open slit in the earth about 6″-12″ inches in width and a depth ranging from 24″ to 60″ depth. The crew will then “place” the cable or pipe and back-filled the trench. This method of burial is best utilized in more rural areas such as along roads, through fields, and in new construction zones.

What kind of restoration costs are associated with Directional Drilling vs. Trenching?

One of the many benefits of trenchless technology (HDD drilling) is that its impact to the surrounding area is very minimal. However, there are times when trenching is preferred method and as a result trench lines will need to be backfilled, compacted and restoration of surface areas such as lawns, wild grass, concrete, asphalt. Your We-Bore-It Project Coordinator will review these costs and where possible provide you with options to reduce restoration costs to you the customer.

When should I use Horizontal Drilling instead of open Trenching?

Horizontal drilling is a very efficient method of getting into an area, setting up and commencing operations. Open Trenching depending on depth and local ordinances can require additional labor, planning, supervision, safety precautions, and restoration. Urban areas such as water crossings, high traffic areas, pedestrian traffic, railroad spurs, and airports are ideal for directional drilling. Rural areas with low vehicle and pedestrian traffic tend to be better suited for open trenching. Your We-Bore-It Project Coordinator will review your project with you and again after performing a site survey to best determine what options are available to you the customer.
